Dog Surfing

I know everyone's seen these crazy dogs on tv but did you know that your dog can learn how to surf like the latest youtube pawlebrity? That's right, according to, dog surfing is the ultimate human/canine team sport.

What is needed:

1. A Dog Floating Device (DFD). This is important to give your dog the confidence it will need and just in case the wave ends up knocking him off the board! Remember saftey first!

2. A board. Many start with a boogey board but some boards can reach up to $300.  Here is a video that can help you pick the perfect board for your pet:

Now that you have your equipment you're ready to hit the water! If your super pooch becomes a bow-wow-bunga surfing professional you can even enter him into a competition.

Check these great ones out! If your doggie doesn't know how to surf yet these would be great events to attend if your in the San Diego area!!

Need a vacation and want to bring your dog? Head to San Diego for the San Diego Surfing Academy's Doggie Surf Clinic. This year it is being held Saturday August 7th, 14th and 21st from 9am-11am at the Dog Beach. Clinics last an hour and only 25 dogs per clinic so register early!! Sign up here:

Who wouldn't want their dogs to do this??

I'm definitely going to attempt this with my dogs! Happy Surfing!

  1. That looks like a lot of work, but if your pooch takes to it, plenty of fun!

Love the pics of the surfer dudes!

  2. Equipment needed would first involve a human who surfs, I'd think. Not having one of those, I'm looking forward to helping Daddy channel surf when he gets home from the hospital. He's very good at it and I believe I'm picking it up.

  3. Love your blog! My dog is one of your photos... Surf Dog Ricochet... she's the one surfing with the quadriplegic surfer. She has a page of surf dog training on her website for puppies, and dogs that can't get to the water often

There's a series of instructional videos that go along with them.

Hope to see you at one of the contests!
